Freaky Die Freaky
It's been more than two years in the making, but Green Day leader Billie Joe Armstrong's big-screen debut is finally slated for release. Armstrong stars in "Live Freaky! Die Freaky!," a stop-motion animated musical inspired by the Charles Manson family murders. The "American Idiot" singer portrays a young man who adopts a book about the killings as his bible and preaches about a better world through "music, murder and mayhem." The film also features the voice of Rancid/Transplants member Tim Armstrong, as well as fellow members of Green Day, Rancid and the Transplants; actress Asia Argento; and members of the bands X, Good Charlotte, Blink-182 and AFI. The flick will be released in early 2006, according to The Hollywood Reporter. ...
Benji and Joel Madden's production team, the Dead Executives, are going from recording tracks with Hilary Duff to punk band the Bottom Line. "[Our] band always comes first, though," Joel said. "Right now we're exclusively working on Good Charlotte." ...

Good Charlotte Express Concern For Their Former Drummer
05.16.2005
'We're all behind him and we just hope he'll get better,' Joel Madden says.
BALTIMORE — Last week Good Charlotte shocked fans by announcing they'd parted ways with drummer Chris Wilson due to undisclosed "personal health issues." And ever since then, they've kept quiet and kept playing, refusing requests for interviews and hiring former Morrissey drummer Dean Butterworth to play the remaining dates on their Noise to the World Tour with Simple Plan.
But when MTV News spoke with them this past weekend at the HFStival, they didn't seem like a band harboring any secrets. Rather, they sounded like a group of concerned friends.
"Right now, Chris needs to be at home with a support system and people who love him. It's a very sensitive, personal problem he's having, and we're all behind him and we hope he gets better," Joel Madden said. "Obviously everyone knows something's going on — Chris hasn't been with us — and we had to give our fans some kind of answer. But assume what you want to assume, he's having problems and he's dealing with them at home."
The band broke the news Tuesday via a posting on GoodCharlotte.com (see "Good Charlotte Drummer Leaves Band Over 'Health Problems' "), and since then rumors have been circulating about just what is wrong with Wilson. And if fans are looking for an answer, well, Madden isn't about to give them one.
"Out of respect for our friend, we want to give him all the privacy he needs until he's ready to talk about it," he said. "We're all behind him and we just hope he'll get better."
Joel's brother, Benji, didn't have much to say on the matter, either, but he did hint that Good Charlotte's grueling tour schedule might have contributed to whatever is currently ailing their former drummer.
"The road is a hard place to find solid ground to stand on," he said. "We have each other, but waking up in different cities every day, it's not a place for rehabilitation. That's why he's home now."
Good Charlotte would not say whether Wilson would be back in the band when he's fully recovered, but in the meantime they're content to have longtime friend Butterworth behind the kit.
"Dean's been with Morrissey for a long time, and I became friends with him about two years ago. I think he's amazing," Joel said. "We needed a confident drummer who could fill really hard shoes, because Chris is an amazing drummer, and Dean's been able to step up and play really well."

"The affected area hit hard by Hurricane Katrina shares a rich musical and cultural heritage, so it's all the more meaningful that we try to support these massive relief efforts through music and encouraging our audiences to help any way they can."
"It's going to be a great thing," said 3 Doors Down singer Brad Arnold, whose bandmembers had homes severely damaged in Mississippi. "It's going to raise a lot of money. It's going to raise a lot of awareness about how badly help is needed. And all in all it's gonna be a great show."
"ReAct Now: Music & Relief" will be broadcast commercial-free from New York, Los Angeles, Nashville and Atlanta and will air simultaneously on MTV, VH1, CMT, MTV2, VH1 Classic and mtvU, as well as on the broadband online channels MTV Overdrive and VSpot.

The Game
HOLLYWOOD — Add Good Charlotte's Benji and Joel Madden to the growing list of rockers laying down beats with rap royalty. Perhaps the two took an unexpected-collaboration cue from good friend Hilary Duff — who had crunkster Lil Jon cook up a beat for her (see "Lil Jon Jamming On LPs From Trillville, Scrappy — And Jessica And Hilary") — because the Maddens, who have been busy writing material for Good Charlotte's forthcoming album, recently busted out a track with friend the Game.
"We were all just randomly hanging out one day, and [Joel and I] were like, 'Hey, you want to go in the studio?' Benji said at Us Weekly's Young Hollywood Hot 20 event on Friday. "So we all just went in and had a good time." "It was kind of last minute," Joel added. "We're trying to hold off on doing stuff with other people because we want to focus on Good Charlotte, but when Game asked us — he's our friend, so it was fun. It really wasn't like work."
The brothers describe the sound of the track, which is still untitled, as "the Clash meets N.W.A."
"There's no name for it yet, but y'all will hear it though," Benji said. "Trust me; you'll know when you hear it. It's crazy."
So far, a handful of tracks have been written for Good Charlotte's latest album (see "Good Charlotte Says New LP Won't Be So '80s, Calls Hilary 'The Greatest Singer Today' "), and the guys plan to hit the recording studio by the end of the year with their first single out by next spring.
For now, the brothers have even put their production team, the Dead Executives, on hold while they focus on their top priority. "The Dead Executives is [still] happening, but we're holding off until we finish [Good Charlotte's upcoming] album," Benji said. "After that, though, we're going to be working with everyone in the world."

School
Benefit
The lineup for Neil Young's 19th annual Bridge School benefit is a lesson in rock and roll history, from such contemporary stars as Good Charlotte, Bright Eyes and Norah Jones to early legends like Jerry Lee Lewis.
Others slated to play the shows, set for October 29-30 at the Shoreline Amphitheater in Mountain View, California, include a solo Dave Matthews (Sunday only), Crosby, Stills, Nash & Young, Emmylou Harris, Los Lobos and some special guests to be named later.
With the exception of Matthews, all the other artists are expected to play both days, as is the custom with the benefit, during which bands perform unplugged. The unique format of the Bridge School concerts has made for some standout sets from unexpected artists in the past, including Green Day, Metallica, the Smashing Pumpkins with Marilyn Manson, Foo Fighters, Billy Idol and Sonic Youth.
The Bridge School is a Bay Area program for children with severe physical and speech impairments. One of the other hallmarks of the show is a riser at the back of the stage on which the children and their families are seated throughout the sets and a show-ending sing-along that typically features many of the day's artists jamming with Young.
